In India, trade has been done with the neighboring states since ancient times, this trade was done through waterways and land routes. Water was carried through boats. In modern times this trade is done by ships. Businesses are cheaper than ships. Many types of facilities are provided on the banks of the river or the sea for doing business, so that ships can be easily transported, these are called ports. There are 13 large and over 200 small ports in India. See below the list of ports in India.

1. Mumbai Port:

Mumbai port is located in the state of Maharashtra. It is a natural harbor, most of the trade is done here.

2. Nahwasheva Port (Jawaharlal Nehru Port):

It is an artificial port, it is located in the state of Maharashtra, it has been built to reduce the load of Mumbai port.

3. Kandla Port:

It is located in the Indian state of Gujarat, it is located in the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat. This port mainly imports goods.

4. Murugan Port:

This port is located in the state of Goa, iron ore is exported to Iran from this port. Its position is on the Zuari River.

5. New Mangalore Port:

New Mangalore is the largest port of Karnataka. Iron ore is exported to Arab countries from this port.


6. Kolkata - Haldia Port:

Kolkata is located on the banks of river Hooghly in West Bengal. Its subsidiary port is Haldia which is situated on the beach.

7. Paradip Port:

The iron ore of Jharkhand and Odisha state of India is made from this port to Japan. Paradip port is located in the state of Odisha.

8. Visakhapatnam Port:

Visakhapatnam port is located in Andhra Pradesh, it is a natural port. There is a hill called Dolphin Nose, due to which the strong waves of the sea do not hit the ships.

9. Ennore Port:

Ennore Port is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It has been constructed to reduce the load of the Chennai port. It is the first computerized port in the country.

10. Chennai Port:

It is the oldest artificial port in the country. Chennai port is located in the state of Tamil Nadu.

11. Tuticorin Port:

Tuticorin Port is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. The beach here is less deep, so ships are stopped five kilometers away.

12. Cochin Port:

Cochin port is located in Ernakulam district of the Indian state of Kerala, it is a natural harbor.

13. Port Blair Port:

Port Blair Port Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is the 13th major port of India.
